1. Overview

ItalyGo ("we", "us"), operated by MM Creativity in Ontario, Canada, respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how it is protected, and the choices you have. It is written to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Ontario privacy expectations. By using italygo.ca you agree to this policy.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: name, email address, password (stored only as a salted cryptographic hash), optional username, profile photo and bio.
  • Content: reviews, ratings, photos, check-ins, favourites and lists you create.
  • Contact form: the name, email and message you send us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed and interactions, via Google Analytics (see §6).
  • Technical data: IP address and browser details may appear in standard server logs.

3. Why we use it (and our legal basis)

  • To operate the Site, your account and its community features (performance of a contract with you);
  • To display your reviews, photos and check-ins on the Site (your consent, given when you submit);
  • To answer contact messages and support business claims (our legitimate interest);
  • To understand traffic and improve the Site (analytics, see §6);
  • To protect the Site and users against abuse, spam and fraud (legitimate interest and legal obligation).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. What we share — and with whom

  • Public content: your reviews, photos, check-ins, lists and public profile are visible to other visitors, attributed to your display name/username.
  • Service providers: hosting (Hostinger, Canada/EU), database and email delivery — bound to process data only on our instructions.
  • Analytics: Google LLC (see §6).
  • Legal: where required by law, court order or to protect rights and safety.

We never share your email address with businesses or other users.

5. Where data is stored and how long

Data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider (Hostinger) and its database service; some processing (Google Analytics) occurs in the United States. We keep account data while your account is active. Reviews and photos may remain after account deletion (attributed to "Former member") unless you request removal. Contact messages are kept up to 24 months.

6. Google Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Site is used (pages, cities, devices). GA uses cookies and may process data (including IP addresses, truncated in GA4) outside Canada. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies. Full details, including how to manage cookies, are in our Cookie Policy.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Access / correction / deletion: request a copy, fix or erasure of your personal data via the contact form.
  • Account deletion: request at any time; we delete profile and account data within 30 days.
  • Leaderboard: toggle your visibility from your account settings.
  • Withdraw consent: e.g. remove a photo or review you submitted — just ask.

8. How we protect data

  • Passwords stored as salted scrypt hashes — never in readable form.
  • Sessions via signed, httpOnly cookies over HTTPS.
  • Least-privilege database access; uploads and abuse monitored; admin actions restricted.

No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we review and improve protections continuously. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

9. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Business data

Business contact details (address, phone, website) are published as part of the public directory. Owners can request changes or removal at any time through the contact form.

11. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site.

12. Contact

Privacy questions or requests: use the contact form and choose "General question". We respond within 30 days.
