The Italian Counter is a family-owned deli, grocer and pasta shop in downtown Napanee, opened by chefs Roberto and Francesca Ruzzier after more than two decades cooking in kitchens across Italy, France and Canada. They are from Trieste — a port city where Italian, Central European and Mediterranean cooking meet — and that heritage shows in the counter: pasta made fresh daily on an Italian machine, handcrafted sauces, deli sandwiches, ready-to-heat meals, and a pantry of imported Italian meats, cheeses and specialties. Finish with the tiramisù or a cannoli. Open Tuesday to Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday.
